Frictio for Chrome: Privacy Policy

Frictio is built so that your data never leaves your browser.

What Frictio stores (in your browser only)

• Your check-in answers (how you were feeling, and whether you chose to take a break), how long that session had run, when the check-in happened, and which monitored site you were on
• How long you spend on each monitored site each day
• Your settings (check-in interval, which sites to monitor, your wording choices for the buttons, and the optional "ask before opening" prompt with its hour limits)
• If you turn on the optional launch prompt, a count of how often you chose to continue or to leave
• A random identifier generated on this device. It is not derived from you, your browser, or your hardware, and it never leaves your browser. It exists only so records can be told apart if a future version offers to sync them.

All of this is stored using the browser's own extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device.

Site access

Frictio runs on eight sites and no others: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, X (Twitter) and Snapchat. You can switch any of them off in the extension's options.

On those sites, Frictio only:

• reads the hostname, to know which site it is on
• notices whether the tab is visible and focused, and whether you have scrolled, typed, or moved the pointer recently, so it can tell whether you are actually using the site rather than leaving it open in a background tab
• checks whether a video is playing, and pauses it while a check-in is on screen
• draws its own check-in card on top of the page

Frictio does not read the content of any page. It does not read text, posts, images, form fields, passwords, or the full address of any page you visit. It does not change the page apart from adding its own card.

What Frictio does NOT do

• No data transmission. The extension makes no network requests at all. There is no server, no account, no analytics, and no ads. Nothing you do in Frictio is sent anywhere.
• No remote code. All of the extension's code ships inside the package. Nothing is downloaded or executed from the internet.
• No tracking. Frictio does not build a profile of you, does not follow you between sites, and keeps no record of any site you did not choose to monitor.
• No personal information. Frictio never asks for or collects your name, email, contacts, or anything else about you.

Sharing

Nothing is shared, because nothing is transmitted. Your data is not sold and never will be.

Data deletion

Removing the extension from your browser permanently deletes everything it stored.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Frictio offers to sync your data between your devices, that will be optional, it will require you to sign in deliberately, and this policy will be updated before it ships. Frictio will not begin sending your data anywhere without you choosing it.
